The area around Orem City has sidewalks, parking lots, and foundations that support municipal and commercial life. While this is important for Orem’s function, it also provides the perfect environment for one of the most annoying pests in Utah County: the pavement ant.

Because Pavement Ants exploit the smallest gaps in concrete, homes located close to the City Center face constant risk of infestation. These ants always look for new food sources and can easily invade your home.

Do not ignore the dirt mounds that signal major structural issues beneath your property. Get a professional examination with saelapest.com and secure your hardscape investment.

The City Center Ant Advantage

Pavement Ants thrive in Orem’s City Center environment. The extensive concrete network acts like a protective roof for their homes.

During the summer, the sun heats the concrete and creates a warm microclimate. This protects their colonies from temperature swings and moisture changes. This stability allows them to grow into massive “super-colonies” right next to residential neighborhoods.

You often see these ants swarming in large numbers on sidewalks and driveways during the spring and summer. This is often a sign of colony warfare, where rival groups are battling for territory under the pavement. These intense fights mean the ant population is extremely high in your immediate area.

After the fight, the ants do not disappear. Instead, they move to somewhere else, and the easiest path is often into the nearest shelter. which is usually your garage or basement. They travel along the warm concrete until they find a tiny crack to exploit.

These ants cause a lot of structural damage and foundation risk. They push up little piles of dirt through the cracks in the sidewalks and driveways. They excavate this soil to make their tunnels bigger and deeper. This constant tunneling weakens the base material under the concrete.

As time passes, this erosion can cause the settling and cracking of sidewalks, walkways, and even your home’s foundation slab. Eventually, this leads to expensive repairs and persistent entry points into your house.

Where City Center Ants Invade Your Home

The ants from the City Center invade your home because it has all the food sources they need and love, including sweets, proteins, and grease. Once they get inside, they start looking for predictable harbors. The tiny gap beneath your Garage Thresholds is the most common entry point from the driveway.

Similarly, Basement Window Wells often collect soil and debris, which the ants use to climb up and squeeze under window frames. Any Expansion Joints where your porch, patio, or driveway meets the foundation slab are a guaranteed ant highway.

Do Surface Sprays Fail With Ants In Orem?

Many Orem homeowners try to solve the Pavement Ant problem with store-bought sprays or granular baits applied only to the surface. Unfortunately, this approach is almost always unsuccessful against these particular pests.

Pavement Ants do not nest in the open grass where you can easily spray them. They live deep underground and are completely protected by the layer of concrete or asphalt above them. When you spray an ant trail on your patio, you are only killing the worker ants who are currently out looking for food.

Behind the scenes, the queen continues to lay thousands of eggs safely underground. This is why the ants keep coming back just a few days after you spray.
